Without interrupting their careers, the Rochester-Bern Executive MBA program allows participants to earn an international MBA degree from an AACSB accredited, top-ranked U.S. business school (University of Rochester) as well as a national EMBA degree from a distinguished Swiss university (Universität Bern).

Target audience

Candidates for the program are middle- or senior-level managers with the potential for taking on increased responsibilities within their organizations. They have an academic or equivalent educational background and several years of management experience. Within their positions of high responsibility, they have demonstrated potential for advancement, and they are fluent in English. Moreover, they are able to set priorities and balance family, job, and studies.

Emphases/Curriculum

The program offers an integrated approach to thinking about management problems and a thorough understanding of the cross-functional nature of business decisions. Courses follow a logical sequence proceeding from fundamental tools to strategy considerations. Participants get all the tools necessary to analyze, design, implement, and manage successful business strategies.

Practical relevance

The program starts once a year in January and takes 18 months. Courses are held every other Friday and Saturday in Switzerland (Thun). The curriculum is enriched by an intense summer session at the Simon School in Rochester (6 week block) and an educational trip to China (1 week block in Shanghai). The bi-weekly format is designed for executives who need a schedule compatible with their business responsibilities.

Admission/Entrance requirements

Total fees approx.:	CHF 92000

The tuition fee of the program is CHF 70,000, expenses amount to CHF 22,000. Expenses include accommodation and all meals at the Hotel Seepark Thun, accommodation and some meals in Rochester and Shanghai, all required books and materials, examination fees, and the graduation ceremony. Tuition is to be paid in three installments, spread over three years.

In 1994, the Simon School at the University of Rochester was the first business school to offer a U.S. MBA degree for executives in Switzerland. Today, the Rochester-Bern Executive MBA program is still the first choice of leaders looking for an applied general management education of highest quality with an international focus, outstanding customer care, and valuable networking opportunities.

Study in Thun

In Switzerland, classes are taught at the Kongresshotel Seepark in Thun. This four-star hotel right next to the lake provides an ideal setting for intensive study away from the hectic pace of day-to-day work. Located south of Bern, the Seepark is easily accessible by car or train. The hotel offers all the usual amenities as well as meals and accommodations on class days and recreational facilities such as a whirlpool and sauna.

In Rochester, classes are taught at the Simon School in its executive program facilities. Accommodation is at the Rustic Village Apartment Community in Rochester. Breakfast and lunch are provided for students on all class days. At school as well as in the apartment community, students find the necessary infrastructure for their studies. The University is also well equipped for a variety of individual and group sports activities.

A study week in Shanghai, completes the curriculum. This stay is intended to enhance students' knowledge of Asian ways of doing business and to give them a better appreciation of cultural differences. Students discuss the opportunities and challenges of doing business in China, visit local companies, and listen to presentations by Chinese managers, academics, and expatriates. Classes are organized with a local partner and in various production sites and service centers around the city.
