Target audience

The Executive MBA in Management and corporate Finance is designed for ambitious managers who are looking to enhance their career opportunities.

Emphases/Curriculum

The programme consists of a General Management Section which runs for nine months that is followed by a Specialisation Section.

General management modules:
The general management modules are designed to enhance the understanding of the core business concepts required to strengthen the management skills. The programme also organises extra seminars and lectures to help participants gain self-awareness and confidence.

Advanced Finance Specialisation:
The global understanding of management, provided by the general management modules, is followed by the advanced Finance Specialisation. These modules truly address what is required from top executives:
  • A thorough understanding of finance
  • A cutting-edge strategic thinking
  • Strong interpersonal skills
Practical projects:
During the programme, participants have to work on two major projects, adapting and applying strategies and knowledge to real-life situations:

  • The Individual Strategy Project (ISP) is made individually within the participant's organisation: it has the objective to help the participant make a real impact in his/her organisation by integrating his/her newly acquired knowledge.

  • The Group Entrepreneurship Project: group of 5 participants work on a new venture project of their own or related to an existing company willing to diversify its activities. Participants have to hand out a business plan and to present the conclusions and recommendations to a panel of experts.
Study tour:
The HEC Lausanne Faculty, in collaboration with the SDA Bocconi school of Management, has organised a mandatory study tour for the Executive MBA in Management & corporate Finance participants. The classes will take place in SDA Bocconi Milan.

Practical relevance

The programme is highly international in terms of its content, its professors and its participants. Indeed, participants come from all over the world - Europe, North and South America, Asia, Africa - which creates a friendly, multi-cultural and multi-lingual atmosphere.

Although our programme is primarily aimed at executives living and working in Switzerland, more then a dozen nationalities are represented and about 20% of the participants take upon themselves to cross borders every other weekends. Some have even reserved their flights for the whole year ahead.

We encourage participants from all backgrounds and nationalities to apply to our programme.

Organisation

Founded in 1537, the University of Lausanne is composed of seven faculties where approximately 12,400 students and 2,300 researchers work and study. Emphasis is placed on an inter- disciplinary approach, with close cooperation between students, professors and teaching staff.

The University of Lausanne is situated at the heart of the French-speaking region of Switzerland, in the middle of Europe - close to France, Germany, Italy, and Austria.

The UNIL campus is spread across three locations, the largest of which is in Dorigny, on the shores of Lake Geneva. This picturesque landscape, with views of the Alps and the lake, provides the ideal setting for study and research.

Study in Lausanne

Lausanne — surrounded by mountains and descending to the shores of Lake Geneva — is generally acknowledged to be one of the world's most beautiful and liveable cities. In addition to a rich selection of restaurants, movie theatres and city sites, the city and surrounding area offer a wide variety of cultural activities (such as the Montreux Jazz Festival and the Béjart Ballet), which are supplemented by the cultural life of nearby Geneva.

With the countryside so close, it's no secret that slipping away for a weekend is possible, even for participants of our intensive MBA program. After all, some of the best skiing and hiking areas in the world are less than an hour’s drive away!

Many places are accessible by public transport. The extensive transport services within the city interconnect with high speed trains to take you all over Switzerland and the rest of Europe. For other international destinations, Geneva airport is a 40 minute drive or train trip from Lausanne.
