The Doctorate of Diplomacy is an extensive study of the political and diplomatic trends of today, requiring the students to have a solid background in the field both academically and professionally. The program consists of political modules that lead to a broad perspective of the international problems from the points of view of the different parties involved.

Target audience

The Doctorate of Diplomacy/Political Science targets individuals who wish to excel in this field of ever increasing importance and who wish to obtain an international perspective on their previous education and experience.

It is also aimed at individuals wishing to give their career an academic direction, thus entering the fields of applied research, political consulting and lecturing in the field of diplomacy/political science.

Emphases/Curriculum

Program Design

The Distance Learning Doctoral programs of SMC consist of an obligatory Core Courses Stage. Its successful completion leads to the Specialization Courses related to the program of enrollment. Doctoral students subsequently continue with their individual Dissertation Stage, which consists of research and preparation of a dissertation. Hence, the program is divided into three main stages whereas students may only pursue subjects within their current stage.

Distance learning students may take a maximum of 4 years to complete the program. Upon completion of all subjects and the dissertation, students are required to pass a Final Grand Exam and defend their Dissertation vis-à-vis the Defense Committee. The Final Grand Exam covers topics from all subjects of study.

Graduate degree from an internationally recognized academic institution. 4 or more years of work experience in executive or managerial level positions Proficiency in English Completed application form including all required documents
