Programme

It is a unique international programme, with a friendly and personal atmosphere, where students are treated as individuals. The international spirit is further enhanced by the English programme language and by the international body of academic staff. Cooperation in teaching and supervision of Master’s theses exist with universities in Switzerland, Germany, Austria, Italy, Denmark, Luxembourg, China and the United States of America. Educational journeys and excursions abroad give insight into international finance markets.

This Master’s degree programme also offers an excellent preparation for a subsequent doctoral degree programme. International professors are chosen for their active research and their ability to integrate the latest research findings into their teaching. Students are given the opportunity to participate in ongoing research conducted at the Institute for Financial Services.

Academic Director

Target audience

The Master’s degree programme in Banking and Financial Management is open to students who bring along the knowledge and abilities as well as the skills and qualifications acquired in a first degree, to correspond to the respective consecutive Bachelor’s degree programmes at the University of Liechtenstein.

In particular, we are looking for mature individuals who are team players with a passion for banking and finance and who are prepared to study at a very high academic level. We expect students to deliver high quality of work and to be highly motivated to participate in and actively shape this challenging programme.

Emphases/Curriculum

The curriculum illustrates a completion of the programme in three semesters, plus one semester for the preparation of the Master’s thesis.
  • The 1st semester provides an overview of methodologies and theories in Finance, Econometrics, Accounting, Taxation, Asset Management and Profit and Risk Management.

  • The 2nd semester focuses on International Corporate Finance, Derivatives, Capital Markets and Investment Banking.

  • The modules in the 3rd semester are Corporate Governance, Ethics and Professional Standards, Leadership and Wealth Management. Students complete the Master Lab, a semester-long, practice-oriented project assigned by local or international businesses.

  • In the 4th semester students participate in the research-oriented Master’s thesis module for the completion of the Master’s degree programme.

Practical relevance

The programme consciously develops network thinking, teamwork capacity, analytical, social and communication skills among its students. Regular team projects challenge and prepare students for the demands of the modern business world. The delivery of methodologies and the completion of research projects are key aspects of this programme.

A strong emphasis lies on working in small groups, which ensures exceptionally close contact between lecturers and students. The curriculum is designed to prepare students for the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) examinations, an internationally recognized degree in the finance sector.
