Target audienceThe iimt‘s Executive Specialised Courses are open to all executive managers active in the world of utility. While some executives may not wish to embark on a full Executive MBA or Executive Diploma Programme, these courses offer an opportunity for part-time students to extend their knowledge in one or more of the iimt‘s subject areas. The courses can be taken in any of the subject areas, covering three modules, starting with module one. Students who successfully complete a course in any of the subject areas are awarded by an iimt certificate, which may be recognised should a participant wish to register for the Executive MBA at a later date.
iimt Executive Programmes are designed to enable the parallel pursuit of professional activity and studies. This scheme of study presents immediate practical benefits to business as well as superior prospects for individual development. It offers a flexible design of study schedules with full-time or part-time study, or a mixture of both. This avoids clashes with the course participants’ professional activities.
Emphases/CurriculumThe Executive Programmes are designed as a series of modules; there are ten subject areas with three modules in each subject, each module covering a level of increasing difficulty. The Executive Programmes are intended for managers with demanding schedules. To ensure that they can pursue their professional activities alongside their studies, the programmes are organised in weekly blocks (Monday to Saturday). Each block consists of two modules covering two different subject areas at the same level. Half of the class time is devoted to the acquisition of new knowledge in the subject area concerned; the remaining time is allocated to practical work and case studies in Utility Management. This high rate of flexibility allows candidates to choose the length of time they need for the courses, according to their individual needs and situation. The Executive MBA (15 course weeks) can be completed part-time (2 or 3 years) or full-time (1 year). The Executive Diploma (10 course weeks) can be completed part-time (2 years) or full-time (1 year).

OrganisationThe University of Fribourg, which was founded in 1889, is the only completely bilingual university in the whole of Europe. Both the city of Fribourg and the University represent a meeting place of two different cultures: French and German. Building upon this cultural diversity, in December 1995, the University of Fribourg established the international institute of management in technology (iimt). The iimt, which is part of the Faculty of Economics and Social Sciences, offers the only executive training programmes in Europe with a specific focus on Utility and ICT Management. The Institute has a wide network of contacts in over 30 universities and other renowned institutes in Switzerland and internationally.
The iimt, supported by its partners and promoters and with its active participation in Utility organisations, provides quality training on an international level. Its programmes combine the most recent theoretical management concepts with practical understanding of international Utility, giving insights into widely different cultures and attitudes and enabling conditions in other Utility markets to be understood and evaluated. In addition to developing senior management, the iimt offers a wider range of staff further training related to their own specialised fields. For this purpose, the programmes have been designed on a modular basis, with a number of innovative features.
